Advanced open water - Day 136
1:08 PM

And the adventures continue… I didn’t stop with just my open water certification; I took the advanced open water classes the following weekend. Advanced classes included a deep dive, under water navigation, peek buoyancy, fish recognition and a WRECK DIVE. As you can tell from the ‘all caps’ the wreck dive was my favorite. Obviously you can’t reach most sunken ships from shore dives so this class included 3 dives off a charter boat.
Once again I more than enjoyed myself.

Open Water Diver - Day 135
2:52 PM

Yep you read this right I’m a licensed Open Water Diver. I can’t believe it myself. For those of you that know me know I’m not a fan of weird creatures, including but not limited to; things with antennas, stingers, mouths, little legs or things that MOVE!! AND for those of you that really know me, know I hate deep water- once I can’t touch I start to freak out, maybe it’s the number of times I have been stuck in a rip current and had to be saved by lifeguard’s or I’m just a weirdo…with that said Scuba diving didn’t ever seem like something I would try let alone fall in love with!
The class was about a week long, two days of classroom/book work, two pool classes and then two real open water dives. The pool was a little awkward because it’s not every day you get in a pool with 60 pounds+ of gear on, but I’m glad that is part of the class, it made me feel more comfortable with breathing underwater before the open water dives. Our whole lives were taught to hold our breaths and plug your nose when you go under water…it should take more than two days to undo that. But now I know how to breath underwater and I’m not afraid of deep water!

Ethiopian Meal - Day 134
2:36 PM

Ethiopian cuisine characteristically consists of spicy vegetable and meat dishes. Ethiopians eat with their right hands, using pieces of ‘injera’, which is like a large sourdough flatbread, to pick up bites of entrĂ©es and side dishes.
Since utensils are rarely used with Ethiopian cuisine it is not a first date meal!!! The food was pretty good but I was more fascinated by looking around the restaurant and seeing a bunch of grownups eating with their hands. AWESOME!

Role Play Hostage - Day 133
2:28 PM

I can’t really say much on this blog entry, only because I signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement, but I will tell you it was a lot more fun than I expected. I got a chance to help the navy out with some hostage training. When I was first asked to do this their choice in words scared me… “Paige would you like to do some role playing for extra cash?” hmmmmmm not so sure my dad would be proud to hear about this one!! After inquiring more about it I realized it wasn’t all that bad and I actually got to really help the service. Navy boys in their lil’ outfits rescuing you from a “bomb”, if that doesn’t scream damsel in distress I don’t know what does.
I had a lot of fun acting in different scenario’s with my new actress friends- the girls were hilarious, it was like I was stuck in a room with a bunch of  Chelsea Handler’s and a Ellen Degeneres. So much fun. I can’t wait to do it again!

Obviously this is not me (just a pic i found off the web) but i thought it would help with the mental picture.

Fun With Kumquats - Day 132
2:20 PM

Lime Juice, golden syrup, kumquats, brown sugar, crushed ice and of course Bombay GIN!!! (Works fine with Tanqueray as well). This is a delicious summer drink.
Crush up all the kumquats in a pitcher add the rest of the ingredients and stir it all up. Leave the kumquats in and serve over ice. You will not be disappointed. I know Gin is not most peoples first choice in alcohol but trust me, you can barely taste the alcohol anyway. If you get creative and try it with Vodka or something else you will have to let me know.
