Yep you read this right I’m a licensed Open Water Diver. I can’t believe it myself. For those of you that know me know I’m not a fan of weird creatures, including but not limited to; things with antennas, stingers, mouths, little legs or things that MOVE!! AND for those of you that really know me, know I hate deep water- once I can’t touch I start to freak out, maybe it’s the number of times I have been stuck in a rip current and had to be saved by lifeguard’s or I’m just a weirdo…with that said Scuba diving didn’t ever seem like something I would try let alone fall in love with!
The class was about a week long, two days of classroom/book work, two pool classes and then two real open water dives. The pool was a little awkward because it’s not every day you get in a pool with 60 pounds+ of gear on, but I’m glad that is part of the class, it made me feel more comfortable with breathing underwater before the open water dives. Our whole lives were taught to hold our breaths and plug your nose when you go under water…it should take more than two days to undo that. But now I know how to breath underwater and I’m not afraid of deep water!
